2011 Spring Roll

After minutes of deliberation we've decided to go ahead with the second annual running of the Spring Roll in Pittsburgh, PA. This year will be a bit different than last year... Well, a lot different, really.

Here's the drill: Show up at The Wall at 4:30 PM, the race will start promptly at 5:00. Bring $10, your bike and a bag (helmets are recommended, but not required).

There will be some sort of prizes and more than likely the refreshments will be comparable to last year (minus the stinky tofu).

Visit the event's Facebook page for updates and possible trash talking.

And the winner is...

Congratulations to Louisa, who not only dominated the women's division in style, but won the overall points competition, bringing in menus from all 10 neighborhoods and collecting seven of the eight bonus options.

Hats off to Greg Brunner of Jet Messenger for speeding his way to first place in an amazingly fast time (exact time unknown, but it was under 1:15).

And congratulations to Kevin from Portland for winning the out-of-town division. He made up his own bonus points category by returning with an extra case of beer to the afterparty.

The Manifest

Now that the race is over, we can show you the manifest...

Racers had to collect menus from one restaurant in each of the 10 specified Pittsburgh neighborhoods, and buy one spring roll along the way. Additionally, there were eight bonus options where racers could vie for points in a separate division.

PEONFX in the house!!!

Last but not least, we've received the highly anticipated prizes from our sponsors in Singapore. This PEONFX Wolfpac messenger bag will be up for grabs, but let's just say it may not necessarily go to the fastest rider. The bag is designed with commuters in mind, with lots of handy features like a laptop sleeve, organizing pockets galore, and a draw-string inner closure to keep the elements out and your stuff secure.

PEONFX also stepped up with an assortment of t-shirts. These high-quality t-shirts aren't going to become shop rags—they're just too nice. Included are their truckhead, electrokeys, upside-down, white and black logo designs. Check out www.peonfx.com for more info.

Iron City Bikes loves you!

You can't deny that Iron City Bikes is an incredible force in the Pittsburgh cycling scene. Located in the heart of Oakland (just a few blocks from the start of the race) they are the college bike shop, keeping countless University of Pittsburgh students on the road, not to mention the innumerous commuters, messengers and bike racers who call ICB their LBS.

One lucky winner will receive an Iron City Bikes Racing jersey. We're bringing a sample to the afterparty, but the winner will need to go claim their proper size at the shop.

Top finishers in each category will get an ICB water bottle stuffed with stickers and a patch kit.

Another lucky winner will get a Topeak Road Morph pump. This pump is awesome. If you've never tried one, you'll be amazed at how easy it is to put 100psi in a road bike tire.

Finally, ICB will be hooking up several winners with t-shirts. And take heart, ladies, there are women's sizes in the mix!
